Puppy Updates- the 2012 Aussie Litter

I LOVE getting updates from my puppy families.  We keep in touch throughout the year.  But I love even more than pictures!

This is Belle (puppy #5) out with her dad on the trail. Just love this photo.
Hush is still here with us.  We're concentrating on herding now and have been out to work the sheep several times.  We have Sheep camp coming up at the end of August, 4 days of clinics with Trudee and Dave Viklund.  We're very excited.  After a long winter we're trying to play some catch up.  Hush is keen on the sheep and considering my knowledge is minimal we're making progress.  She even has her own signature move- she leaps over the sheep! (watch about 20 seconds into the video).

The Count Down Is On

Only six days to go for Bella.  We're all very excited for these puppies after our long wait for this litter. She's feeling really good still- has bounce in her step and is happy go lucky- though it's short lived before she does her beached whale impersonation on the floor.

Today she was bathed and shaved down, so she's a low key groom while she is busy with puppies. And well we'll be busy with puppies!

Our puppies are raised in our house.  They spend the first few weeks in my bedroom- where they are separated from the rest of the house and it's easy to keep a close eye on them even through the night. At 3-4 weeks we move our litters to the living room.  Through the 8-9 weeks puppies are with us we do the following with each and every puppy:
  • Fed a high quality diet:  We feed primarly raw but will also introduce puppies to a high quality kibble before they head to their new homes.  We also feed Puppy Gold nutritional supplement to the mom and babies
  • Groomed:   Our puppies are groomed several times before they go to their new homes.  They are introduced in a low key positive manner to baths, drying (including High velocity dryer just like at a groomers) clippers (Faces feet and tail will be shaved at least once) and the nail dremel/clippers.
  • Clicker training: All of our puppies are introduced to clicker training.  We highly recommend the book "Control Unleashed Puppy Program" to our puppy homes and use these exercises while introducing the puppies to the clicker.
  • Crates: All of our puppies are introduced to crates.  We use the Crate Games dvd exercises with the puppies.  They spend time in the crate in groups then alone before they head to their new homes.
  • Socialization: We socialize our puppies in a safe and confidence building manner.  Our puppies are introduced not just to many new people, kids but also other dogs, and new experiences to build their confidence and social ability before heading to their new homes.
  • Personality assessment: We want to match the best puppy for your family.  The puppy personality assessment helps us confirm which puppies are best for which homes.
If you have any questions on our puppies, how we raise them and this litter please feel free to contact us!

My running buddies

I took up running a couple months ago.  The dogs couldn't be happier.  Bella in her 'delicate' condition is limited to just walks, so Hush and Kiah have become my running buddies.  We swap who goes each day and they just love it.  Such good exercise for both of us- and they both love coming with. Sometimes we get to run off leash (which hush loves) kiah loves to just stick right by your side.  Hush bounces around- sometimes leaping straight up with her signature bounce, to bounding through the ditch, to jogging beside me- what ever strikes her mood.  But through it all they are all well behaved, maintain their recall and keep an eye on me at all times.

Here's a clip tonight of hush at the beginning of our run from tonight.  I wish I could video tape more how happy she looks her and Kiah both give the same big grin the whole time.

Pleased to Announce that Bella has been confirmed Pregnant.

It makes me very happy to announce that Bella has been confirmed pregnant.  And what a pregnancy she is expecting according to ultrasound 9-10 puppies!

The loss of her last pregnancy left us all quite sad so we're very happy to have had this opportunity to breed her again.  We have rebred her to Phonsey and information can be found on our litters page on the website.

Bella's due date is August 10th.  We are now taking deposits for this litter from approved homes.  With the number of puppies this has opened up room on our puppy list.

Puppies go on spay/neuter contracts.  More details are available to interested homes.  Contact for details.

Hush's first time playing frisbee

Kiah we all know is frisbee crazy. So today Kiah stayed inside so Hush could have a chance to see if she liked playing disc.  She did! She caught it a couple time and just like her mom was ready to play until I said enough.
